Flower-spotting in the DMV

Spring has sprung, and nature has a cacophony of flowers to show for it! Below are some places you and your dog can visit to see what flowers your local places have to offer:

Bluebell Trail at Bull Run Regional Park

A 1.5-mile loop trail flanked by precious bluebells as far as the eye can see! Dogs are allowed, and must be on leash.

Floral Library in Washington, DC

93 flower beds filled with various tulips and annuals, nestled between the Tidal Basin and National Mall. BwB owner, Akira, stumbled across this delightful patch of tulips on her recent trip to see the Cherry Blossoms and can attest that it's worth the trip. Dogs are allowed, and must be on leash.

Wisterias at Dumbarton Oaks

The gardens are 16 meticulously designed acres of paths, structures, and various plants. Take a walk under the cascading purple wisterias while they're in full bloom! Dogs are allowed, and must be on leash.

Hillwood Estate Gardens

Chock-full of flowers throughout the spring and summer, Hillwood is a sight to behold! Explore the gardens, orchid greenhouse, and estate! Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed except on Sunday mornings for Hillwood members.

National Arboretum in Washington, DC

With both areas to drive and walk through, picturesque columns, and an unmissable bonsai museum, the Arboretum is rightfully a popular spot to visit in the spring! Dogs are allowed, and must be on leash.

Lastly, your own neighborhood!

Even something as simple as a different walk route throughout your neighborhood can reveal some hidden beauties in people's yards. Keep your eyes peeled for carefully manicured front yards, butterfly gardens featuring native plants, and even wild flowers! There's something everywhere for those who look.

Happy flower-spotting!
